Cultural journeys and expeditions

Iceland... a land of volcanoes and glaciers… elves and spirits… puffins and whales... epic sagas, heroic legends and a rich history…

Come with us on our 8-day Iceland cruise aboard one of our newest ships, stylish, yacht-like, from Ponant's Explorers series. Sail from sophisticated Reykjavik to off-the-beaten-track towns, tiny villages and islands populated by just a handful of people. Bird watchers will be delighted by all the opportunities to observe puffins, arctic terns and other species that thrive in Iceland, and history lovers will find much of interest in Iceland's story. Your yacht is small enough for an intimate cruise experience yet large enough to provide amenities found on large cruise ships; all staterooms and suites have ocean views, and 95% have private balconies. Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon

Enjoy the therapeutic geothermal waters of Iceland's Blue Lagoon

Back in the mid-1970s, after a geothermal power plant was built on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, waste water from the plant began forming a pool near the facility in a lava field in Grindavík. By the early 1980s, reports of the water's therapeutic properties prompted locals to start bathing in it. The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa was established in 1992, and has become one of Iceland's most popular attractions. Its aqua-blue pools of mineral-rich geothermal seawater – with a temperature between 98 and 102 degrees F. – are believed to have many medicinal benefits... and on your visit, you'll have an opportunity to soak in their supposedly healing waters.

Booked this one because a friend took it last year and loved it. The local guides were great. Four or 5 lectures by a local expert were very informative and entertaining.
